Hi, I’m Anna—mum of two little cherubs and founder of Cosy Joey.
When I first became a mum, I felt like I’d lost a part of myself. As an outdoorsy, adventure-loving gal, I wanted to take my baby everywhere, but bulky prams just weren’t cutting it for bushwalks, beach days, or bustling farmers markets.
When I discovered baby wearing, it gave me the freedom to get back out there and rekindle my love for outdoors adventures. But keeping my little one safe from the harsh Aussie sun and other outdoor nasties? That was another challenge. When my firstborn was too young to safely wear sunscreen or mosquito repellants, I clumbsily wrapped muslin wraps around her carrier to provide her with some protection. However, that was fiddly, looked terrible and didn’t actually protect her skin from much at all!
When I had my second baby, baby wearing turned from a preference to an absolute necessity… (IYKYK). When chasing my toddler around, I found it even more difficult to practically cover my newborns skin in the carrier. One beach trip, when my youngest was 3 month’s old, one of her legs got mild sunburn through the muslin fabric after only 15 minutes in Queensland’s morning sun. I felt terrible. Fed up with not having a practical solution to my problem, I set out to create one myself. That’s when the idea for the Shady Baby Cover was born.
After over a year of research and product development, we have created a product we’re super proud of and excited to share with you. From my little family to yours, I hope that the Shady Baby Cover offers you the freedom to baby-wear outdoors, confident in the knowledge that your little joey is safe and cosy.
Our Signature Fabric
In our mind, finding the right material for our products was the most important piece of the puzzle. We needed to find a ‘unicorn fabric’ – one that was UV protective, chemical free, hypoallergenic, soft on the most sensitive skin and extremely lightweight and breathable. Materials coated in chemical UV blockers weren’t an option and we found that other traditional naturally UV resistant materials on the market were too heavy and bulky. After many months of research, testing, and trial and error, we found the perfect solution.
UPF 50+ Protection
Our Zinc Oxide embedded signature fabric provides UVA and UVB protection to shield your little one from the sun’s harmful rays. Our fabric has been independently lab tested and achieved a rating of UPF50+. Perfect for protecting the most sensitive skin (0 - 6months) when sunscreen is not yet an option.
Easy to Use
Universally fits all baby carriers and is a breeze to put on and remove—no complicated ties, awkward knots, or baggy fabric.
Stays securely in place while you’re on the move. No more swaddles flying off in the wind or sliding out of position.
Convenient Storage on the Go:
Includes a hidden double pocket - a smaller one for items such as keys, dummy, phone etc - and a larger deeper pocket which can fit a nappy, wipes and a spare onesie.
Thermoregulating and Breathable:
Keeps baby cool in the heat and cosy when it’s chilly, thanks to the advanced properties of our signature fabric.
